The most important part about maintenance of a conveyor belt is tracking it. Though, it is one of the most painful thing to deal with, when it comes to really large conveyor belts, tracking a conveyor belt corrects a lot of issue. Generally, if the conveyor belt isn’t trained the right way, or isn’t aligned the way it should be aligned, it will not follow the path it was intended to follow and hence, will cause disruptions in the normal system.

Luckily for us, conveyor belt tracking is not always tough, if we follow some steps. Here in this article, we will discuss about some tips to correct some of the issues while doing conveyor belt tracking.

Inspect the Frame

Generally, it has been seen that if the conveyor belt is not levelled or not square, most of the inaccuracies occur with respect to tracking. Hence, the first thing that you need to do, if you encounter a problem with tracking, then inspect the frame, if it is level or square.

To check if the frame is level, you can use a standard level, which is available at any store. The next step that you need to do is, you need to measure the belt from one end to the other, and if you see that the measurements are not equal, you need to pull the frame using the square rods provided by the manufacturer back in to its alignment.

Inspect the Pulleys

While maintenance or installation of conveyor belts, most people have a tendency to steer only the end pulley. Same goes when someone wants to track the conveyor belt. Steering the end pulley that much, will cause the belt to miss track.

Instead of always steering the end pulley to make the belt follow its original direction, you can alternatively adjust the idlers and the snub pulley, which is there in the underside of the belt, to make the belt follow the desired direction.

Inspect for Debris

Debris accumulated under the belt, is a very common scenario for conveyor belts. It is very natural that sticky tapes and debris from the material or load, being transported with the help of conveyor belts, will get accumulated somewhere. Now, these debris build up over time, and sometimes can be responsible for miss-tracking of the belt. Since, these debris, if not cleaned will make the pulley raised, and hence, causing miss tracking.

Though it is of utmost importance to check the conveyor unit for mechanical issues, it is also important that you keep the unit clean. Check for debris accumulated under the belt routinely, and make sure that there is no accumulation.

Inspect for Curves

Generally, when the conveyor belt is installed in a factory, it is cut down to its required width. Now, if the belt has not been cut in a perfectly straight way, then it might develop a curve or an arc, which might further lead in to miss-tracking of the conveyor belt.
